Jesus says that the prerequisite for learning the truth and that the truth can set us free is that we continually remain in the Word. Hear the word, and act on the word, we do that by bowing to Him in us, by following Him where Jesus wants to go, say and do. It is not us who live anymore, but Jesus through the Holy Spirit in our place. We have died and risen with Jesus, now living his life instead.
The religious without the Holy Spirit in them, without Jesus in them live on their own, they want to fulfill parts of the law to be what they call Saints, they want to keep days etc that's what a Christian has to do which is not the whole truth. The truth is Jesus in us is nothing else.
Jesus is always the living God's word and life inside us, from there our whole life springs are you there?
John 8:31 "If you keep my words, you are truly my disciples. 32 You will learn the truth, and the truth will set you free.'
Namely, Jesus the Word of truth by the Holy Spirit has both set us free and sets us free.
Proverbs 4:20 My son, listen to my words, listen carefully to what I say. 21 Hold fast to them, and let them take root in your heart, 22 for they give life to all who follow them, they give health to body and soul. 23 Take care of your thoughts and motives, because they shape your life.
Follow the Word Jesus and do not allow all kinds of other thoughts and words to enter, learn to sort out important words and things, your life is Jesus nothing else. Don't fill yourself with everything unnecessary also from the internet many use YouTube today as entertainment, put the word of God, the gospel instead let the hymns run in the background instead, word input affects your whole life and God's relationship
Luke 6:47 But those who come to me and hear my words and act on them, let me tell you who they are like. 48 They look like a man who was going to build a house. He dug down deep until he reached the bedrock, and he used it as the foundation for his house. Even when there was a flood and the water washed against the house, it stood firm, because it was built on a good foundation. 49 But those who have heard my words without acting on them are like a man who built his house on the bare earth without a good foundation. When the flood came and washed against that house, it all collapsed in a heap of ruins.'
Jesus lives by the Holy Spirit inside us who are born again. God's kingdom is not of this world, we can make Jesus both resentful/angry and grieve the Spirit of God that we received at our new birth by not being filled with His own words and life in the Holy Spirit.
We cannot serve two masters, both that which is in the world and God. We are sanctified to God the Lord, set aside, taken out of the life spirit of the world and set with Jesus Christ in the heavenly.
